ActionAid Nepal
ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency working in over 40 countries, taking sides with poor people to end poverty and injustice together. Founded in the United Kingdom in 1972 and registered as a global entity in The Hague, the Netherlands in September 2003, the ActionAid International Secretariat is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
ActionAid belief Climate change is now one of the greatest obstacles to ending poverty and realizing rights. It urgently requires international action to mitigate its causes and to enable the poorest countries to adapt to its effects.
ActionAid is calling for a comprehensive, multilateral response to climate change. This must recognize that individual countries have differing levels of responsibility, based on their contribution to the problem and their capacity to deal with its effects. The developing world - especially the 'emerging' Middle Income countries - needs to acknowledge the dangers of climate change and address them squarely. Yet the developed world must take a lead in limiting its own consumption of the world's resources, and in recognizing its historical and current responsibility.

Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development
Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 in Nepal. It is committed to capitalize on local initiatives for sustainable management of renewable natural resources and to improve the livelihoods of resource poor and marginalized people.
LI-BIRD recognizes that adaptation to climate change will be required by all countries. The Adaptation focus area provides the basis for enabling developing countries affected adversely by climate change to access the resources they need to respond to these impacts. To deal with further unavoidable climate changes and impacts, accelerated work on the adaptation activities should be initiated immediately. Vulnerability to climate change impacts should form the benchmark for analyzing and determining financial needs of developing countries. This focus area will develop and promote low input agriculture, stress resistant varieties and adaptation technologies to build the resilience of communities to climate change. Furthermore, the focus will be in developing the capacity of communities to cope up with changing extreme climatic variations so that their adaptive capacity will be improved.

Practical Action Nepal:
Practical Action was founded in 1966, as ITDG (the Intermediate Technology Development Group), by the radical economist Dr EF Schumacher to prove that his philosophy of 'Small is Beautiful' could bring real and sustainable improvements to people's lives.
Practical Action has a unique approach to development - we don't start with technology, but with people. The tools may be simple or sophisticated - but to provide long-term, appropriate and practical answers, they must be firmly in the hands of local people: people who shape technology and control it for themselves.

DFID is the UK's department for international development and has a long history in Nepal. It has a large programme - major components include funding education, health and roads. It is currently looking at how to support climate change in Nepal, and is looking to work with government, donors and civil society to develop a common framework for action on climate change. This framework could then provide the basis for longer term, more predictable and harmonised support to developing capacity and knowledge. The Mountain Institute
The
Mountain Institute , Mankind depends on mountains, and now, more than
ever, mountains depend on us for their protection and care. We know that climate
change is real and has the potential to create dramatic changes in the natural
order of life on our planet. Mountain ecosystems are some of the first in
the world to experience these changes. We also know that globalization is
causing major economic shifts and increasing poverty in the remote areas in
which we work. It is hard not to sound alarmist when one is, in fact, alarmed,
but at The Mountain Institute we are transforming this concern into action
by intensifying our responses through our multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional
programs.
